The Northeast of Thailand
North East Thailand is referred to as "Isaan", and the locals predominantly use a dialect that is much more aligned with Lao rather than akin to central Thai. The Northeast has been relatively untouched by tourism, and as such offers the adventurous traveler the opportunity to witness lifestyles that have remained largely unchanged, in a region know for the warm hospitality and fun-loving nature of its people.
The region is primarily agricultural, with a few large cities and vast expanses of land dedicated to growing rice, sugarcane, cassava, eucalyptus, rubber trees and fruit and vegetables. The water buffalo remains a common sight.
