Green Gecko is Northeast Thailand's most attractive and unusual holiday house. This architecturally stunning villa rises amongst lush green woodlands in the North-eastern countryside, out of  Udon Thani.

If you wish to escape from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok's teeming metropolis, or seek a Thai adventure off the beaten path, Green Gecko beckons, offering calm and ensuring privacy. We welcome all who seek to uncover and explore the heart of this unique region we call "Isaan", from honeymooners to couples, to families and friends, to photographers or cooks keen to uncover new secrets!

The villa occupies only a small fraction of extensive private grounds, that include gardens & mango orchards, cassava fields & woodlands, grazing grounds & paddy fields. At the entrance, forget-me not and frangipani, lilies and limes, lemongrass and flowers attract startlingly painted butterflies and  greet the guest, whilst rising through  the centre of the extensive wooden deck is a fragrant champaca tree.

The elements of the villa reflect its  roots in the evolution of Thai house design - from the steeply arched roofs with their terracotta tiles,  to the use of wood throughout, to the layout of the principal dwelling buildings that are raised above the ground to ensure breezes and views of the surroundings, and are centered around a wooden open-air deck. This also houses a barbecue and a sheltered outdoor  living & relaxation area know as a "sala", which traditionally is used to welcome visiting  guests.

Access to the villa is via twin  wooden steps that lead to the central deck, from which the guest enters into the house itself via large antique doors kept to with a heavy chain.

The house has two bedrooms, each with hardwood floors, air-conditioning and an en-suite bathroom. The principal bedroom also has an external garden shower.

The large hardwood-floored living room offers ample seating and an additional sunken slumber area with futons, for catching a midday nap or lazing on to watch the news on the satellite LCD TV. The main living areas are decorated in local "mutmee" silks and "kit" cottons, together with unique antiques and indigenous pottery works. The dining room is an alternative to the al fresco sala outside, with its own table and chairs.

The villa has a Western style kitchen with wooden counters, a built-in microwave, oven and refrigerator, toaster, blender, coffee cafetiere, and plenty of plates, glasses and hand-made cutlery. The adjoining Thai kitchen permits those wishing to study the secret of Thai and Isaan food the wherewithal to concoct it - from a large mortar and pestle, to professional gas hobs set into stainless tops with jet after-burn ferocity!

A Thai family living in a village a few kilometres away will look after you throughout your stay, arranging airport transfers, preparing and cooking delicious Thai food for you throughout your stay, and they will be delighted to show you around the region and immerse you in the location with its time-honoured traditions and rituals - or to allow you to enjoy the property in utter privacy. The choice is yours - but do indulge in a traditional Thai massage, visit the pink-flowering lotus lake and try your hand at Isaan cooking, or even at harvesting  some sticky rice!
