    Central Thailand  The central plains of Thailand are home to the kingdom's capital, Bangkok, and to historical cities such as Ayutthaya and Kanchanaburi (with its famous bridge over the river Kwai). The region also incorporates the beach resorts that may be reached within a two or three hour drive  south of Bangkok, such as Hua Hin and Cha Am (located between Phetchaburi and Prachuap kiri Khan).

     

    Most visitors will arrive and depart via Bangkok through its Suvarnabhumi international airport. The region combines the teeming metropolis of the capital with its markets, traffic, shopping malls, temples and sights - with ancient ruins and museums and beach resorts.

     

    Home Cooking in Central Thailand

    The central plains of Thailand are very fertile, thanks to their numerous rivers, and rice crops here are not limited to only once annually.

     

    Rice noodles are widely consumed in dishes such as "Pad Thai", and simple omelets & herring with chili paste are common dishes. Of course, the region is also home to Bangkok, where Royal Cuisine evolved with its highly sophisticated  presentation and careful balancing of flavours and textures.
